Does anyone know of a way to change a pdf/ps/dvi file into word format. The job agency require a word format which is just nasty.... Anyway, I'm guessing the best plan is to take an image of the pdf file and then save it in word format. Any help on how to do that please?

(Ug, evil, evil people....)

(I've no idea.) They probably want a Word file so they can edit it.

I don't know why, something about that's what the database wants... This may be the reason I'm not sure.

Agencies generally want to edit your CV, even thought they're not competent to do it right. (Making the Word document be an image of a PDF rather than text will helpfuly subvert this.) "What the database wants" is just "the computer is always right" and not a real explanation of the underlying reasonm, if there is one...

Indeed this was roughly my thinking... Now I just need to work out a was to do this...

If you're sending in a raster image of a CV embedded in a word document, it'll also subvert them being able to search the contents of that CV in the database too.. Great if you never want peoples queries to match your CV.

I've heard stories about agencies removing such things as referees and your contact details.

This is why I take a copy of my CV that I've prepared myself to interviews and say cheerfully, "Agencies sometimes make mistakes, I've written this myself so if there are any discrepancies please believe this one". It can't hurt. This is obviously not really important for temping unless you have any specially requirements you want to make sure are passed on. In my case I wanted to make damn sure that my new employer knew about my degree result before they offered me a job, just in case it was going to be a problem.

One agency added my date of birth (which wasn't on the copy I gave them). At subsequent interviews I got asked if I'd really been to Cambridge when I was 14... I started taking my own printouts with me after that.

That was my experience. But I was young, naive, didn't know the score, I was just surprised, it felt like a mysterious error somewhere :) I just told work my email address and all was fine.

IIRC they might have changed my degree result too, which on the one hand, well, their job to make me look good, but on the other hand, it's shaving the truth a bit fine.

What format is it in at the moment? Don't you create it in something else and turn it into a pdf from there?

It's a latex document, hence can easily be pdf, ps or dvi.

Oh, of course. Sorry, it seemed to make more sense there'd be a latex-to-word converter, because aiui pdf/ps explicitely don't contain info other than what it looks like; but google shows pdf-to-word converters a lot more common. Though less brute force than embedding an image :)

Sorry, I don't know what the best way is. Though may it reflect on you if the agency emails the cv to anyone in that state?
