Lazy Web: Merging friends groups.

I have been somewhat inept in organisation of friends groups and have many which I would now like to merge. I should be able to do this by backing up my journal and searching for posts using a particular filter but that will be a pain even if there isn't that many posts involved.

So: Does anyone know to merge custom groups - I want to merge groups and have all posts made to one group visible to the merged group. Help? shortcipher is investigating but help would be very useful.
